Lawyer: Sandusky was teaching boys 'hygiene'

A defence attorney said Thursday former Penn State assistant coach and accused child molester Jerry Sandusky showered with young boys to teach them personal hygiene.

Sandusky, 67, has admitted he accompanied boys into the shower after football camps he ran for disadvantaged children, and in an interview with WHTM-TV in Harrisburg, Pa., attorney Karl Rominger said it was to help the boys learn how to bathe.

"Some of these kids don't have basic hygiene skills," Rominger said.

"Teaching a person to shower at the age of 12 or 14 sounds strange to some people, but people who work with troubled youth will tell you there are a lot of juvenile delinquents and people who are dependent who have to be taught basic life skills like how to put soap on their body."

Sandusky is accused of having molested 10 boys over the course of a decade.
