With the first week of the bowl season just about upon us, let's not waste any time and get right to the picks. Champs Sports Bowl, Tuesday: Syracuse (+5) vs. Georgia Tech -- The Yellow Jackets had a disappointing season due to inconsistent play from sophomore QB Reggie Ball. He will have to be much better vs. a Syracuse team that is ecstatic to be bowl bound by winning its last game of the season against a quality Boston College squad ... Syracuse 24-21.

GMAC Bowl, Wednesday -- Memphis (+4) vs. Bowling Green: Both teams are explosive on offence. Memphis RB DeAngelo Williams is one of the best in the NCAA. The team that runs the ball better should walk away with a win. The Tigers are a more balanced team and have the edge running the ball ... Memphis 35-31.

Fort Worth Bowl, Thursday -- Cincinnati (-1.5) vs. Marshall: The Bearcats finally have a healthy QB in senior Gino Guidugli, which should be the deciding factor. His poise and accuracy will allow the Bearcats to put up some points so his team doesn't have to play from behind. The Thundering Herd on the other hand has been trying to find its identity all season ... Cincinnati 32-28.

Las Vegas Bowl, Thursday -- Wyoming (+11.5) vs. UCLA: With a game-breaker like RB Maurice Drew, the Bruins should roll over a Wyoming team that does not play in a strong conference ... UCLA 35-21.

Hawaii Bowl, Friday, Dec. 24 -- UAB (+3.5) vs. Hawaii: This is very much a home game for the Warriors. Hawaii is tough at home and score at a much higher rate than it does on the road. Senior QB Timmy Chang is the NCAA's all-time passing leader in yardage and will show why he is so well liked on the island vs. an average UAB team ... Hawaii 42-32.

Last week -- 1-0 straight up (176-43), 1-0 ATS (118-90-2)

Best Bet -- Hawaii (7-5-1)

Upset of the week -- Memphis (6-7).
