WINNIPEG - Linebacker Korey Banks has asked the Bombers to release him, but the team is not ready to grant him his freedom just yet.

Head coach Mike O’Shea said Banks went into general manager Kyle Walters’ office this morning and asked to be let go, but O’Shea said the Bombers don’t have to make a decision until Tuesday.

“We don’t have to make any decisions right now on the roster until 48 hours before the game,” O’Shea said. “The focus right now is on preparing for Ottawa.”

The Bombers gave Banks, 34, more than a $50,000 signing bonus when they inked him to a new contract after trading for him in January, which is likely why they’re hesitant to cut him loose. Winnipeg has been trying to trade Banks for the last few days.
