WINNIPEG - It happens every training camp. A Blue Bomber fan will ask me how the quarterbacks look, and I’ll always say the same thing.

They look fine in practice when nobody’s trying to rip their heads off.

Like most people, I can pick out a good arm. I can get a feel for a good leader by talking to him.

But it’s impossible to know how the guy behind centre is going to handle himself when the lights are on and a dozen men on the other side are saying and doing nasty things to him.

We might have got a feel for Max Hall last season, but how true a read was that, amidst the dysfunction of Gary Two-and-Out Crowton’s offence, later bandaged up to resemble a CFL attack by Marcel Bellefeuille?

Starter Drew Willy is new, as are wanna-be backups Brian Brohm and Robert Marve.

So are the Bombers any further ahead than they were last year?

Hall certainly is.
