Drew Willy was asked this afternoon if he had been guaranteed to be Winnipeg’s new starting quarterback.

Willy started to answer the question, but head coach Mike O’Shea, displaying signs he will be ferocious when it comes to protecting his players, didn’t let him finish it.

“Drew’s the starting quarterback,” O’Shea interrupted, causing an awkward pause during Willy’s introductory press conference at Investors Group Field.

The Bombers trotted Willy out in front of the media this afternoon, 24 hours after acquiring his rights from the Saskatchewan Roughriders and giving him a two-year contract that will pay him in the neighbourhood of $250,000 per season. That’s the big reason why Willy has been pegged as the man who will attempt to lead the Bombers from the depths of despair, even though he wasn’t their first choice.
