The third time was the charm when it came to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers trying to land another quarterback.

After whiffing on Henry Burris and, to a lesser extent, Zach Collaros in the last week, the Bombers acquired pivot Drew Willy from the Saskatchewan Roughriders for receiver Jade Etienne this afternoon.

The Bombers then signed Willy, who would have been a free agent on Tuesday, to a contract extension.

Some members of the Bombers brass, in particular assistant GM Danny McManus, are high on Willy's talents, even though he has started only two career games. Winnipeg's original plan was for the 6-foot-3, 217-pound Willy to be Burris' backup, but the 38-year-old signed with the Ottawa RedBlacks on Tuesday.

The addition of Willy gives the Bombers a quarterback stable that also includes Max Hall and Justin Goltz,
