Henoc Muamba is going to get his shot down south.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers released the Canadian middle linebacker Wednesday morning to let him immediately pursue an NFL opportunity. Muamba, who would have become a free agent next Tuesday anyway, has worked out for several NFL teams this winter, including the Baltimore Ravens on Monday.

“Henoc is a great player, and an even better person,” Bombers GM Kyle Walters said in a press release. “The Winnipeg Blue Bombers wish him the best in his pursuit of employment in the National Football League, and sincerely thank him for his contributions, both on and off the field, with our organization.”

The Bombers drafted Muamba first overall in 2011, and last season he blossomed into one of the top Canadian players in the CFL. He was voted Winnipeg’s most outstanding player, top Canadian, and best defensive player after registering 106 tackles.
