WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have welcomed back a familiar face.

The Blue and Gold signed defensive end Jason Vega to a new deal this morning. The 26-year-old spent 2013 pursuing NFL interests after recording 12 sacks in two seasons with the Bombers.

“Jason is a character guy with great athletic ability,” Bombers GM Kyle Walters said in a press release. “He is not only a great football player, but a real quality person and will be a welcomed addition to our locker-room.”

Vega became a CFL free agent last February and signed with his hometown New England Patriots. He didn’t make the team, but he signed with the Dallas Cowboys and played in two games. He had a tackle in Dallas’ 17-3 win over Philadelphia in October.

Vega, who played at Northeastern, appeared in 27 games for the Bombers and recorded 66 tackles, 12 sacks and a fumble recovery. He had two tackles and a sack in the 2011 Grey Cup loss to B.C.
