Even though Ottawa RedBlacks general manager Marcel Desjardins said he won’t be taking any potential free agents in Monday’s expansion draft, Bombers GM Kyle Walters isn’t so sure that’s the case.

“It seems odd that he keeps saying that,” Walters said this morning at Investors Group Field. “If that was your plan, you might not want to say that or he’s a very honest guy. I don’t know.”

Walters believes Desjardins might be fibbing a bit, because he said the Bombers have protected “some” potential free agents going into Monday’s draft in which each CFL team will lose three players: two Canadians and one import. Each CFL team submitted a protected list on Monday that included 10 imports, one quarterback and six Canadians. Teams can protect six more Canadians for the third and final round of the draft, and squads that lose a quarterback or a kicker/punter will be able to protect more Canucks.
