WINNIPEG - The acting tag has been lifted, and Kyle Walters is the new general manager of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

“Kyle is a strong leader with a wealth of knowledge of the Canadian Football League,” president and CEO Wade Miller said in a press release. “His professionalism and great desire to win make him exactly what this organization needs in its next general manager.”

Walters, 40, took over from the fired Joe Mack on Aug. 13, but only in an interim role. He spent the next few months making trades involving quarterback Buck Pierce and defensive end Alex Hall that netted receiver Akeem Foster and offensive lineman Pat Neufeld.

Walters was Winnipeg’s special teams co-ordinator a year ago at this time, but he was promoted to assistant GM in December 2012.

“This is a great honour to represent fans across the province as the general manager of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers,” Walters said in a release.
