The Bombers should not be waiting so long to make decisions on head coach Tim Burke (pictured) and GM Kyle Walters if they want to find the best candidates to replace them.

WINNIPEG - When you’re as bad as these two teams, your biggest game of the year isn’t even listed on the CFL schedule.

I’m talking about the Edmonton Eskimos and your Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and the game I’m referring to takes place in the off-season.

It’s called Grab a Coach, and it’s more important than any on-field tilt these two also-rans played in 2013.

So why am I not surprised the habitually slow-starting Bombers are at it again, stumbling out of the gate as if they didn’t hear the opening whistle?

The Eskimos have already not only fired head coach Kavis Reed, they’ve fired off letters asking teams for permission to talk to candidates to replace him.

And the Bombers?

They’ve got Tim Burke and his lame-duck staff holed up in the office working on player evaluations. Just imagine how hard that is to do, and how much of your heart is in it, when you know it’s just a matter of time before you get your pink slip.
