WINNIPEG - Even though Chris Matthews appeared in just five games this season, it hasn't soured his hopes of landing an NFL contract this off-season.

Winnipeg's rookie of the year in 2012 dealt with back and turf toe injuries this season but is ready to show NFL scouts what he can do.

"My first year I did really good, and they noticed it," Matthews said Sunday. "They wanted to see what I was going to do this year. Unfortunately with the injuries I couldn't do anything, so that's where getting workouts will help answer some questions for them.

"I'm just going to work as hard as I can so when I do get those workouts that there won't be any other questions they'll need to ask."

Matthews is one of 24 potential free agents the Bombers could have in February, including middle linebacker Henoc Muamba and cornerback Brandon Stewart.
