WINNIPEG - Wade Miller, please take your time.

The gut instinct of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers acting Chief Executive Officer is probably to fire head coach Tim Burke shortly after the buzzer of Saturday's regular-season finale with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Investors Group Field.

This is not to say that Burke should definitely be back for 2014 -- chances are pretty good that he won't be and that 3-14 record is going to be awfully difficult to ignore, regardless of the bad hand he's been dealt -- but to simply fire him now before knowing who the Blue Bombers general manager is going to be or who the other interested head coaching candidates are doesn't make any sense either.

I'm not advocating keeping Burke twisting in the wind but just as I wrote in this space last year that it was a mistake to drop the interim tag before actually having an exhaustive search, the same applies this time around.
