WINNIPEG - Bomber fans in the next two weeks will get a close-up view of what they could have had.

It was no secret in the off-season that quarterback Mike Reilly was going to end up in either Winnipeg or Edmonton. His rights were traded from the B.C. Lions to the Eskimos two weeks before he would have become a free agent, and he signed a contract with Edmonton shortly thereafter.

The message the Bombers wanted people to know behind the scenes was that Reilly didn't want to play in Winnipeg anyway, so there was no point in trading the second overall pick for him. While that is technically true, it wasn't because Reilly had anything against the Bombers.

No, Reilly was more interested in playing for the Esks because the Bombers still had four quarterbacks under contract who had played in Winnipeg the year before -- two of whom, Joey Elliott and Alex Brink, they released later in the off-season.
