The Sun asked several CFL executives about what they would do to fix the current mess in Winnipeg. Here are some of the more popular answers:
1. Fix the hierarchy
It sounds so simple, but it’s proven to be more difficult to do. One CFL type on Thursday had this advice for the Winnipeg Football Club.
“The board needs to be the board. The president needs to be the president. The GM needs to be the GM. The head coach needs to be the head coach.”
Translation: Stop the meddling and do your job.
This would also mean not hiring friends or old buddies, which has been prevalent over the years. That could mean spending more money than they might be comfortable doling out as well.
“They have to be smart in Winnipeg, patient,” one respondent said. “Should have hired Jim Barker last time. But they didn't think that would be popular. Screw popular. How popular is losing? Hire the best guy.”
