One of the men who brought Joe Mack (above) to Winnipeg, former Bombers great Joe Poplawski, says the GM deserves the rest of the season to show he can get the job done.

What the devil is going on with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers?

Take a couple weeks away from it all and, as usual, all hell breaks loose.

This time they didn't fire a coach. But the latest losing streak became three games long, then four, and along the way the No. 1 quarterback somehow became the No. 3, without playing a single down.

It's not like the No. 2 went out and stole the job, either, the way Khari Jones yanked the ball from Kerwin Bell's hands 13 years ago.

Justin Goltz is simply the next guy in line. The way Alex Brink and Joey Elliott were before him.

It's take-a-number succession planning. Only the machine keeps spitting out tickets that read, "Sorry, Try Again."

So the same old problem, the lack of top-flight quarterbacking, is leading to the same kind of season fans in these parts are getting disgustingly used to.
