We may not have seen the last of Buck Pierce, after all.

Pierce's status as the Bombers' third-string quarterback could change after the bye week, as coaches consider making him the first one off the bench should recently named starter Justin Goltz struggle or get hurt.

"We're hoping when he gets 100 percent healthy that could be an option for us," head coach Tim Burke said.

Pierce missed one start because of an abdominal bruise, and a second -- Monday's 27-20 loss in Vancouver -- after he was demoted in favour of Goltz.

Making his second career start, Goltz managed just 112 yards through the air as the Bombers lost their fourth straight.

Pierce could be used to give Goltz a break when he struggles, perhaps providing a spark off the bench.

What the Bombers don't want to do is go back to having the oft-injured Pierce get most of the practice reps, stifling the development of the younger Goltz.
