The Justin Goltz era is officially upon us.
Before the Winnipeg Blue Bombers hit the practice field after five days off, head coach Tim Burke announced Goltz was taking over from Buck Pierce on a full-time basis.
“You might ask the reason why,” Burke said before taking questions. “We just feel like we have a desire, a need to develop the quarterbacks for the future of the organization. And also, we want to have continuity with our offence and we feel like Justin will give us a better chance for week-in and week-out continuity.”
That continuity has been difficult to find for the Blue Bombers, given the checkered injury history of Pierce, who was unable to start because of injury 27 times in 58 games since signing for the Blue Bombers in 2011.
