WINNIPEG - For the first time in a long time, the word 'controversy' officially applies to Winnipeg's quarterback situation.

You could say the situation has been controversial for a while, but now one of them is upset and the other has publicly stated that he plans to take over the No. 1 gig. That's how a backup should think, though.

Starter Buck Pierce is not happy he's not starting on Friday night against the Calgary Stampeders at Investors Group Field, and backup Justin Goltz is ready to grab the reins and not let go.

The official reason from the team is Pierce’s abdominal injury, which he suffered in last week’s 35-19 loss to Toronto, will prevent him from starting. Pierce, however, says he’s good to go.
