WINNIPEG - Aaron Woods will be doing all he can on Friday night to not follow in the speedy footsteps of players like Ramonce Taylor, Travis Shelton and Jameze Massey.
Those are just three of many kick returners the Bombers have brought in over the years to return kicks for them. All of them have failed.
One had great hands but couldn’t catch a pass as a receiver to save his life. Another treated the ball on returns like it was a hand grenade. A third, according to sources, was so hungover the day after a pre-season game he threw up during the team run the next day and was promptly sent packing.
Woods basically just has to show up and not trip over his own shoelaces to be an improvement, but the Bombers (1-3) will be looking for much more than that when he returns kickoffs on Friday night against the Calgary Stampeders (3-1). Woods will replace Will Ford, whose 18.8-yard return average is second worst among the league’s eight primary returners.
