There aren’t enough stars in the sky to count the number of times an athlete’s career is launched due to somebody else getting hurt.
Look no further than Blue Bomber running back Chris Garrett taking over from Fred Reid a couple years back.
Or Chad Simpson taking over from Garrett last year.
The latest candidates for a similar boost: Winnipeg receivers Isaac Anderson and Doug Pierce, along with D-lineman Marquis Frazier.
Anderson or Pierce will replace veteran Terrence Edwards, out at least one week, likely more, with a shoulder injury.
Not even head coach Tim Burke knows who has the edge.
“I think it’s going to be Isaac Anderson — but it might be Doug Pierce,” Burke said.
Both got similar chances last season, showing just enough to be invited back for another crack.
Who gets this one, against Hamilton, Saturday, will be determined far from the bright lights and cheering crowds.
