WINNIPEG - The stats for Kenny Mainor are confusing.

The Bombers defensive end has started — according to the team, anyway — a grand total of six games over the past two seasons. Despite that, only four players in the entire CFL have recorded more sacks in the last two years than the 6-foot-3, 248-pound Atlanta product.

Mainor had eight sacks in five starts during the 2011 season and added another seven in 2012 despite starting only the final game of the season.

So what gives? Why isn’t Mainor on the field for as many snaps as humanly possible? Why was he on the field for only 50% of Winnipeg’s defensive plays last season when sack leader Alex Hall got 70%?

“Kenny Mainor, to me, is a guy that has potential to be a starter,” defensive line coach Will Plemons said Tuesday. “… The thing Kenny has to do is build confidence in himself and the coaches that he can have that spot and be consistent game in and game out.
