WINNIPEG - Quarterback Buck Pierce said he felt as excited as the rookies he was about to take the field with.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers starter was one of just two veterans — backup quarterback Justin Goltz was the other — to get on the team’s new field as rookie camp kicked off, Tuesday.

It seems Pierce has a rejuvenated attitude to go along with the new stadium on the University of Manitoba campus.

“Mentally, I’m at a good place right now,” Pierce said. “Last year was humbling in a lot of ways. Mentally I’m as sharp as ever, as hungry as ever, as excited as I’ve ever been. I’m going into my ninth year in the CFL and I’m as excited as all these rookies.”

After another injury-plagued season that caused the Bombers to contemplate switching gears at the most important position, Pierce says he took the off-season to do his own reflecting.
