Justin Goltz ready for birth of career with Blue Bombers
By Paul Friesen, Winnipeg Sun

Justin Goltz put on the scrubs and delivered his wife's baby recently. Now he's ready for the birth of his career as a quarterback with the Blue Bombers.

He’s tagged with the No. 2 job behind Buck Pierce, which means he could well be the starting quarterback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers by the end of July.

But Justin Goltz has already made the most important delivery of his life.

Donning doctors’ scrubs, Goltz literally guided his new son into the world in the wee hours of last Friday morning.

“I was lucky enough to be able to deliver the baby myself,” Goltz said from his home in San Diego, Wednesday. “It’s something I’ll never forget.”

Goltz and his wife got the idea from a firefighter friend who’d had his own hand in a birth.

“The doctor manouvered the baby but I was literally able to guide him out and hand him to my wife,” he said. “It was pretty surreal. I was so sensory overloaded. We kept the sex of the baby a secret from ourselves. We didn’t know before it was born. So I was just so overloaded and excited, I didn’t even look to see what it was until my wife reminded me. It was pretty amazing.”
