WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are apparently very optimistic that their new stadium will be ready on time.

There’s no turning back now.

Demolition on Canad Inns Stadium began Saturday and continued in earnest Tuesday with cranes raking away at the seats on the East Side grandstands. Large chasms in the structure of the East and West stands were visible and, underneath the bleachers, some chairs and a few posters for concessions stands were the only signs that the football facility once had thousands walking through its corridors.

The East Side lounge and suites are now gutted too, with fluorescent lights laying smashed on the ground alongside tube televisions that are, like the stadium, now dinosaurs.

The development manager for Shindico, which now owns the land, said gutting the facility is a patient process.
