WINNIPEG - Tim Burke isn’t ready to declare Buck Pierce his starter, but he’s not going to be sending him to the unemployment line before training camp either.

The Blue Bombers head coach said he didn’t envision a scenario where Pierce would not be among the four quarterbacks (maximum of five) expected to be at training camp.

Burke met reporters to discuss the release of non-import safety Ian Logan and quarterback Joey Elliott, but naturally discussion turned to the most important question facing the Blue Bombers this off-season.

Burke made it clear that the release of Elliott didn’t mean he was simply giving Pierce his old job back right now.

“It does not mean that. It just means that Joey won’t be,” said Burke, whose stable of pivots under contract already includes Alex Brink and Justin Goltz.
