RALEIGH - It was a bloody day in Bomberville.

The Blue Bombers whacked a pair of prominent players on Monday, releasing starting safety Ian Logan and quarterback Joey Elliott. An official announcement is expected on Tuesday.

There were hints the moves might be coming, but they were still a bit of a shock since both players had spent considerable time with the Blue and Gold. Logan signed as a free agent in 2005 had been the team’s starting safety for five years, while Elliott joined the squad in 2010.

The release of Elliott is the team’s first step in an attempt to figure out its uncertain quarterback situation.

“It was a shock to me,” Elliott said Monday night from Indianapolis. “I really thought that I had a chance to go in and compete for the starting job.”
