The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have suffered a significant blow to their starting lineup before free agency even begins.
The club revealed on Thursday that weak-side linebacker Marcellus Bowman, who was poised to become a free agent on Friday, underwent significant knee surgery last Thursday. It is not known when the injury occurred, but Bombers GM Joe Mack said the recovery time will be “months and months.”
Mack said the team might do something to keep Bowman under contract during his recovery period, but they now need to find a replacement because Bowman wouldn’t be ready for the start of the season anyway.
Terrell Parker, who spent most of last season on the practice roster, is one option, and Mack said he will scour free agents camps for talent as well.
