WINNIPEG - Extra costs at the new stadium could prevent Blue Bombers head coach Tim Burke from hiring an additional assistant for his coaching staff this year.
Burke told the Winnipeg Sun he’d like to add a running backs coach by the end of January, but isn’t sure he can afford it.
“We’ll see where the budget is on that,” Burke said, Friday. “The overrun of the stadium might change things a little bit.”
Burke plans to hire a defensive backs coach by the end of the month, too, and says he’s getting close on that front.
But he needs someone to oversee running backs after Kyle Walters moved from special teams/running backs to assistant GM.
The Bombers have dug deep for some extras at their new facility, CEO Garth Buchko telling the Sun in October some $3 million in improvements would come out of the team’s reserve fund.
