Dickenson has record of domination

WINNIPEG - If special teams really is one third of the game as football coaches like to proclaim, then the Winnipeg Blue Bombers got a lot better on Friday when they plucked Craig Dickenson out of Saskatchewan to be their new special teams co-ordinator.

Even though the Roughriders have been in the middle of the pack record-wise over the last couple of seasons, their special teams were dominant under Dickenson. You can pick almost any stat, and the Riders have ruled it.

For example, Saskatchewan allowed a grand total of two kickoff returns that were 40 yards or longer over the last two years. The other seven teams allowed a combined 57 of them, or an average of more than eight per team.

That’s some impressive stuff, but Dickenson will be bringing modesty with him as well.
