WINNIPEG - Alex Brink will be the starting quarterback as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers wrap up the regular season on Saturday against the Montreal Alouettes.

With Buck Pierce (shoulder) and Joey Elliott (knee) both ruled out because of injury, interim head coach Tim Burke announced that Brink gets the call and that Justin Goltz will see some playing time as well.

“I’m excited, it will be a fun opportunity in the last week of the season to get the ball and try to get ourselves a win,” said Brink. “I’ve been through as many ups-and-downs in a season that a person could go possibly go through. To be honest with you, I feel like I have a really good perspective on it. I’m just going to go out and have fun and enjoy this last week that I can be together with this group of guys.”

Brink said he wasn’t sure where he stands regarding his future of the organization, but would like to be back in Blue and Gold next season.

“I don’t know, it’s really out of my hands at this point,” said Brink.

Burke said he’s seen progression in Brink’s game over the course of the season.

“I’d like to see a little more accuracy with his throws and maybe quicker decision making, which I think you’ll see,” said Burke. “He knows where to go with the ball, but earlier in the season, it was not happening as fast as he’d like it to.”

RJ Archer will be activated from the practice roster and dress, but won’t necessarily see action as the third quarterback.

The Blue Bombers plan to use Carl Volny at running back, while Doug Pierce and Wallace Miles will be inserted as starting receivers to replace Terrence Edwards (foot) and Isaac Anderson (shoulder).

Burke said that Johnny Sears has also been ruled out, but Demond Washington would be good to go at SAM linebacker.
