WINNIPEG - The hits just keep on coming for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Not only is the team off to an 0-2 start, but head coach Paul LaPolice informed the media after Monday's practice that they will be without six players for sure on Friday night in Edmonton, including four starters, and two more are doubtful.
Slotback Cory Watson and linebacker Marcellus Bowman will miss their third straight games, but the big news is on defence, where both halfback Alex Suber and strong-side linebacker Brandon Stewart will both be out because of lower-leg injuries.
Suber got hurt in the second quarter of Fridayís 41-30 road loss to the Montreal Eskimos, while Stewart went down in the fourth quarter.
Jonathan Hefney, who didnít want to play strong-side linebacker after the Bombers released Clint Kent last month, will take over for Stewart. Johnny Sears will move from cornerback to halfback to replace Hefney, Darrell Pasco will take over for Suber, and Deon Beasley will move into Searsí spot at cornerback.
A pair of backups, defensive end Kenny Mainor and Canadian running back Anthony Woodson, also wonít play on Friday night against the Eskimos, who are 1-1 after a 17-1 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday night. Woodson also got injured in Montreal.
Right tackle Andre Douglas and running back Chad Simpson, neither of whom has played a game this season, are both doubtful for Fridayís contest. Douglas practised for the first hour on Monday, but he took the pads off and watched the rest of the workout.
