WINNIPEG - Buck Pierce sounded like a kid who unwrapped a new toy that was on his wish list.

As Bomber training camp hit Day 7 on Saturday, Pierce spoke glowingly of the playbook and concepts being installed by new offensive co-ordinator Gary Crowton.

“I feel like a rookie again, learning a new system and being so engrossed in the verbiage of how he wants things done,” said Pierce. “It’s exciting for me and it’s a challenge for him. You can see the excitement in his eyes every time he sees something on film or something in practice.”

Crowton brings a wealth of experience and his familiarity with the quarterback position is an obvious bonus.

“He’s worked closely with quarterbacks and this is the first time for me that I’ve had a coach who was a quarterback,” said Pierce. “He understands what you can and what’s realistic to ask a guy to do and what’s out of the realm for a guy to do. He speaks our language and knows what it takes for us to be successful.”

Crowton has come away impressed by Pierce as well and is predicting big things in his immediate future.

“He’s a true professional,” said Crowton, noting he’s watched plenty of game film of Pierce. “He’s working hard, maturing and he’s at that age where he’s going to have some opportunities to have some really good years because he’s physically still strong and mentally, he’s been around the game enough starts to really start putting some good games together.”
