WINNIPEG - Some Blue Bombers still wince at the words.

During a TV segment of the Extra Yard about the Toronto Argonauts, a few Argos trashed Winnipeg. Head coach/GM Jim Barker said, “There´s no other reason to go to Winnipeg, but to kick their (expletive).”

Argos fullback Jeff Johnson even referred to Winnipeg as a “sh--hole.”

“They called us some names and we definitely took note because it was on national TV,” Bombers linebacker Marcellus Bowman recalled. “And whenever you disrespect a team like that, we want to make a point like, we want to make you eat your words. We know what they said and we want to know that wherever we come from, we’re going to bring some quality football with us.”

Even Bombers veteran defensive tackle Doug Brown responded.

“(Barker’s) nationally-televised comments?” Brown said. “He’s employed by that organization and we’re employed by this one so, our feelings and our sentiments are pretty much on cue as to how we feel about their city as to how he feels abut this one.”

Zing.

After the last loss to Winnipeg, Barker also said, “There is no way we should lose to this team.”

Sophomore Winnipeg receiver Cory Watson simply shrugged.

“We’re in a place where they want to be so, of course, there will be some animosity,” he said. “But it’s a part of the game and we’ll move forward … They’ve got to say what they’ve got to say but, at the end of the day, it’s all about getting wins and we’re doing that and as long as we keep doing that, that’s all that matters.”

BROWN OUT: Bomber KR Tim Brown suffered a cut in the webbing of his fingers during Thursday’s practice and did not make the trip to T.O. Neither did DL Bryant Turner. Taking their places were DL Dorian Smith and rookie LB Dustin Doe, who will likely be tracking down Toronto KR Chad Owens on kick returns.

RIDING SHOTGUN: Winnipeg offensive lineman Glenn January rushed to Pierce’s rescue several times after the Argos went after him in their last game.

“Whenever you play the game at the speed we play at, those things are going to happen, and I’m sure that we’ll step up our effort this week and just make sure that we do our job,” he said.
