John Surla's disappointment at not being drafted in the Canadian Football League draft lasted about two days.

On Friday, Surla returned his signed contract to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Many expected Surla to be go in Sunday's draft but no CFL team selected the Western Mustang linebacker.

But a day after the draft, he was contacted by the Bombers and signed his contract Friday.

"The contract was for a year with a team option, the same kind of contract four or five other Bomber drafted players got," Surla said.

It's contingent on making the team. If he does not, Surla has a year of eligibility left with the Mustangs.

"It's a win-win situation for me," he said. "If I make it I get paid to so something I love to do.

"If I don't I can come back and compete for another national championship. It's in Vancouver this year and that would be nice to. I've played games in Winnipeg, Hamilton, Laval when it was freezing. Playing someplace warm would be nice."
