WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers officially announced the re-signing of free agent middle linebacker Joe Lobendahn on Tuesday.
The Winnipeg Sun reported Lobendahn's return to the Blue and Gold last Friday.
The 28-year-old from Honolulu started 17 games last season for the Blue and Gold, and made 55 tackles, three sacks, one fumble recovery and 12 special teams tackles. Despite those numbers, new Bombers defensive co-ordinator Tim Burke said Lobendahn wasn't as dominant in 2010 as he was in his first two CFL seasons.
Lobendahn wasn't expected to be back in Winnipeg after hitting the free agent market last week, but there wasn't as much interest in him as expected.
Lobendahn is expected to battle Rico McCoy and Merrill Johnson for the starting middle linebacker position in training camp.
The Bombers have yet to officially announce the re-signing of centre Obby Khan but are expected to do so after he returns from a family vacation in Pakistan.
