Expect the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to announce the re-signing of defensive back Jonathan Hefney later today.
Hefney was the highest profile Bomber to be on the verge of becoming a free agent. That would happen at 11 p.m., local time.
But a league source says Hefney has agreed to terms on a new deal.
Keeping him off the CFL's open market was a priority for the Bombers, who've already said they won't be particularly aggressive in free agency.
Hefney, who turns 26 later this month, was voted the top rookie in the CFL East in 2009.
The Bombers are still in talks with another starter, centre Obby Khan, who's also set to become a free agent.
