The foundation for Winnipeg’s new football stadium has been planted at the University of Manitoba.

The Winnipeg Football Club announce Wednesday that the first of several steel piles was driven into the ground last week.

“It’s very exciting,” chief transition officer Jeff Thompson said in a release. “With the piles in place soon you will begin to see the structure rise from the ground and the new stadium will take shape. There is a lot of activity on site, and everything is on track.”

Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Sun Centre will be transformed in a corporate preview centre, “where corporate partners, premium seat holders and season ticket holders can view the various seating options, suite designs and hospitality amenities that will be featured at the new stadium.”
