Paul LaPolice wanted to hire a defensive co-ordinator with plenty of CFL experience, so he went out and got one of the best ones available.

Word emerged on Friday that the Bomber head coach was attempting to pry Alouettes defensive co-ordinator Tim Burke out of Montreal to replace Kavis Reed. LaPolice has accomplished that mission, because sources told the Sun on Sunday that LaPolice has hired Burke to run the Bomber defence. Burke spent the past three seasons with the Alouettes, who made the Grey Cup each year and won the last two.

The Gazette reported that Burke's contract with the Alouettes had expired, which means he didn't need to receive a promotion to make the move to Winnipeg. Reed was LaPolice's assistant coach last season, so it's possible that Burke could also get that title.

Burke has made it no secret that his goal is to become a head coach. He interviewed for the Bomber job last year but lost out to LaPolice.
