The Winnipeg Blue Bombers made it official Friday, confirming that they have plucked a Canadian offensive lineman off the Hamilton Tiger-Cats practice roster, as previously reported by several outlets, including The Sun.

The 6-foot-3, 295-pound Windsor product, however, will not play in Edmonton when the Bombers take on the Eskimos on Saturday. But Matt Morencie, 22, has been placed on the 46-man roster, meaning he will get a game cheque.

Morencie was drafted by the B.C, Lions in the third round (21st overall) of the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft but was released during training camp and returned to college for his final year of eligibility. The Windsor, Ont., native was signed by Hamilton this past off-season but never played a game for the Tiger-Cats.

In college, Morencie played all five positions on the offensive line as well as stints as a slotback and defensive lineman. He won the J.P. Metras Trophy as the 2009 CIS lineman of the year and was named a first-team CIS All-Star that same year. Morencie was a first-team OUA All-Star in 2008 and 2009, as well as a second-team OUA All-Star in 2007.
