REGINA — Buck Pierce will start at quarterback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Sunday's Labour Day Classic against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Head coach Paul LaPolice made the announcement after the team arrived at its downtown Regina hotel on Saturday afternoon. Pierce has missed four starts due to a sprained right knee.

"After watching him in practice we felt his mobility was good, we felt he was throwing the ball very well, locating it, and we'll give him an opportunity to play," LaPolice said.

"The two games he played at the beginning of the year, you can say he was as good as any quarterback in the Canadian Football League. That's a guy you want on your side."

Pierce started the Aug. 13 game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats but was pulled in the second quarter since his mobility was limiting what he could do on the field.

"I was happy. I was excited," Pierce said about getting the news he would start. "It's a lot of work to get back. I feel I can come out and I can play 100% and I can do my game."

The Bombers (2-6) are on a four-game losing streak, while the Riders (5-3) haven't lost at Mosaic Stadium in almost a year.
