Johnson earns special teams honour

Jovon Johnson of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers was a unanimous pick as the CFLís special teams player of the week. Johnson returned six punts for 105 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown in a 39-17 loss to Montreal.

Both Alouettes running back Brandon Whitaker and linebacker Chip Cox were selected as the top offensive and defensive players, respectively.

Whitaker scored a pair of fourth-quarter TDs that salted the game away while rushing for 74 yards and adding another 44 on five receptions. Winnipeg tailback Fred Reid, who rushed for more than 100 yards in that match, was the runner-up.

Cox led his side with nine defensive tackles, a quarterback sack and returned a fumble 14 yards for a touchdown.

Toronto running back Andre Dure was deemed the top Canuck player. Durie caught seven passes for 69 yards and added another 15 on one carry.
