Maybe the heat is getting to people, but Tuesday’s Blue Bomber practice saw a pretty good fight in the trenches, with offensive giant Kelly Butler and D-lineman Dorian Smith appearing to lead the way.
Paul LaPolice was not amused.
“Just get your three punches and walk away,” the head coach said. “That’s what we have to understand. I mean, we’re all teammates. And they all came over and gave each other hugs after. But that’s part of the emotions when they hit each other all day long.”
So will the coach fine the offenders?
“Fines are something we don’t divulge,” LaPolice said.
WALKING WOUNDED: LaPolice says starting tackle Andre Douglas, an import, will miss at least this week’s game with a strained knee ligament.
Canadian Luke Fritz will take his place on the O-line against Hamilton, Friday.
Receiver/kick returner Marcus Howell (hamstring) said Tuesday he feels good to go, but will sit out one more game.
HASH MARKS: A couple of former Bomber receivers are looking for work today.
Veteran Derick Armstrong was released by the B.C. Lions, after catching 22 passes for 316 yards through six games.
And the Dallas Cowboys cut Titus Ryan, who caught eight passes for a whopping 285 yards and three touchdowns in limited duty with Winnipeg a year ago before using his option year window to try the NFL.
The Bombers aren’t ruling out bringing him back, but he has to clear waivers, first, and may also have an injury to deal with.
