The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have cut kicker Alexis Serna and signed import Louie Sakoda.

The move comes three days after Serna missed two easy field goals in a 29-22 loss in Hamilton, continuing a miserable season for the three-year veteran.

"We had to make a decision and move forward in regards to our placekicking situation," Bomber GM Joe Mack said in a statement released Tuesday morning. "It is one of the most valuable positions on a football field and we simply needed more consistent production at that spot."

After setting a club record for accuracy a year ago, Serna was last in the CFL with a field goal percentage of 57.1 this season.

Sakoda, who punted for the Saskatchewan Roughriders late last season and in the playoffs, has been added to the practice roster and is expected to play Friday in the rematch against the Tiger-Cats.

The 23-year-old product of San Jose didn't get a chance to kick field goals last season, but was a solid placekicker in college, connecting on 57 of 66 career field goals at Utah.

As a punter, he averaged 44.5 yards on 13 kicks last season and punted six times for a 48.1 average in the Grey Cup game.
