Paul LaPolice had seen enough and he took the time to unleash a side of him that doesn’t come out very often.

The often reserved and stoic head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers was upset with the execution during the early stages of practice on Tuesday and he let his charges hear about it, calling them in for a verbal tongue lashing about needing to be sharper.

“We started out slow in our no-huddle period and that really frustrated me, so I pulled them all in and told them we start practice with a fast period so we continue to go with a fast period,” said LaPolice. “We need to play at a high level and we need to be consistent and need to practice consistently. That was the message.”

The Blue Bombers appeared to get the message as they were much crisper following the friendly reminder.

“This is a learning process about how to educate them and I think they’re getting the message,” said LaPolice. “It’s not about Calgary. It’s about us and how we perform every day. It’s not about whoever we play, it’s about what we do. You only have a certain amount of reps each week to prepare and get better from last week to this week.

“We can’t live on last week. We have to get better this week. That’s why I was disappointed in our first 12 plays.”
