The Grey Cup has become a no-no in Winnipeg.
Or at least saying the words, “Grey Cup” has. Such indiscretions will cost members of the Blue Bombers a $5 fine.
“Here’s what I told our players (Thursday) morning, we said we don’t want to hear the word, ‘Grey Cup,’” rookie Bomber head coach Paul LaPolice said Thursday. “They’re not allowed to say, the word ‘Grey Cup’ or any of those terms. We’ve heard that a lot when people are talking about things and other teams talking about us.”
The Bombers, of course, have not won the Grey Cup since 1990 — the longest drought in the CFL.
“We’re worried abut getting two points (Friday) and then, we’ll talk about the playoffs when they come,” LaPolice said. “The most important thing for us is to just get the two points, that’s what our goal is, then we’ll deal with the playoffs down the road.”
LaPolice admitted that even he can get fined for saying the two words that will cause the club embarrassment now.
