The worst-kept secret in Winnipeg became official Friday morning when Joe Mack was introduced as the new vice-president and general manager of football operations for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The 55-year-old Pennsylvania native, who has lived in Charlotte, N.C., for the past 16 years, will oversee the club’s entire football operations and report directly to the Winnipeg Football Club chairman.

Mack, was the Bombers’ player personnel director from 1984 to ’87, has been out of the CFL for the last 23 years, but he beleives he has what it takes to get the Bombers back on track.

“It is an honour to accept this position with the Winnipeg Football Club and begin a new era for this storied franchise,” Mack said in a release.

“I accept this position with much humility and look forward to bringing an exciting brand of Blue Bomber football to this passionate football city.”

Mack’s next order of business is a trip to Mobile, Ala., for next week’s Senior Bowl, where he will interview Bomber head coaching candidates.
