Taman in talks with Riders

Brendan Taman is in negotiations with the Saskatchewan Roughriders to become their new GM.

The former Winnipeg Blue Bombers GM is technically still in the running for the Blue and Gold's vice-president of football operations job, but he said Wednesday that Saskatchewan has the "inside track." Taman is currently Saskatchewan's director of football administration, but he wants a more significant role in the CFL this season.

Joe Mack and Jim Barker are the other two candidates for the Winnipeg job. The board of directors is scheduled to meet Thursday to hear the search committee's recommendation and possibly vote to determine the winner.

Meanwhile, the Globe and Mail reported Wednesday that the Bombers have asked the Montreal Alouettes for permission to speak with their offensive co-ordinator, Scott Milanovich, about Winnipeg's vacant head coaching position. It's believed Barker and Taman would be interested in hiring Milanovich, and the request for permission indicates Mack might be as well. Mack is reportedly friends with Alouettes coach Marc Trestman.
