Mikey likes it.
Today's Banjo Bowl got its name when former Winnipeg kicker Troy Westwood suggested Saskatchewan Roughriders fans were "banjo-pickin' inbreds." Blue Bombers head coach Mike Kelly loves the history behind its creation.
"Apparently, either Troy Westwood took a page out of my book or I took one out of Troy's," Kelly said yesterday. "But sometimes when you open your mouth and you're just trying to have a little fun, things turn into something else and Troy was able to open his mouth, have a little fun and they turned it into a trophy that gets awarded."
The Banjo Bowl is the back half of a back-to-back series with the prairie-rival Riders, following the Labour Day Classic weekend in Regina.
"It just adds to this rivalry between the two provinces and how much fun and how much importance it holds."
