Day 8

STAR OF THE DAY

Wide receiver Justin Surrency consistently beat opposing defensive backs on one-on-one drills and made some nice catches from several different quarterbacks.

CATCH OF THE DAY

Defensive back Darrius Battles knocked down a wide receiver, then splayed out to make a diving interception of a Stefan LeFors pass. He latched on to the ball, hit the ground, showed the ball, then got up and started racing the other way. Honourable mention to converted fullback Jon Oosterhuis for the way the former defensive lineman beat safety Shawn Gallant one-on-one, then caught a short pass.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

ROSTER UPDATE

Head coach Mike Kelly wants to trim his roster to 60 (counters) by Friday and the cuts could include one of the four quarterbacks still in camp ... Import WR/KR Ramonce Taylor suffered an undisclosed injury during the morning practice and joined DE Riall Johnson on the sidelines in the afternoon. The Bombers either don't know what is wrong with them or are paranoid their opponents will use the info to their advantage in a meaningless pre-season game ... OL Obby Khan, who was on the hobble, returned to full team drills ... Non-import LB Thaine Carter will have his dislocated shoulder re-evaluated this week. If he needs surgery, he'll be done for the year. If not, he'll likely return to college.

THE SCHEDULE

The Bombers will practise just once today at Canad Inns Stadium, 4-6 p.m. Winnipeg will play host to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in a CFL pre-season game Wednesday night.
